September 4th

Kate is still doing pretty good.  They have been able to decrease a little on her oxygen settings.  She's been comfortable.  The nurse said she is still retaining fluid and it seems to pool to the side of her body she is laying on.  Kate had been on her belly sleeping and when they turned her over the nurse said she looked like she had been through a boxing match because her face was so swollen.  I'm glad I didn't see her that night- I probably would have panicked.  She gained another ounce just over night from the fluid.  She's around 2.3 lbs. but she has several ounces of water weight.  She will drop weight once she is able to release the fluid.  She is having good urine output, so it seems like the hydrocortisone is starting to work. One of Kate's lungs looked a bit hazy in an x-ray today.  Another x-ray will be done tomorrow morning to see if it has cleared up.
We didn't go see Kate today-it is so hard for me not to go, my heart aches!  I think seeing her gives me peace of mind too.  On the other hand I don't feel like I can go see her everyday-because I still have my kids at home I need to take care of and make life seem somewhat normal. It takes 3-4 hrs. to go visit  Kate (about 1 1/2 hrs. total just in driving).  Josh is supposed to go tomorrow, but I told him I didn't think I could make it another day without seeing her.  So he said he would be fine to let me go instead:)

  1. I bet that is so hard not being able to see her everyday. Let me watch your kids sometime so you can both go.
