September 3rd

Kate had a much better night and day today.  She was moved back to the Drager ventilator because her lungs were expanding too much.  She has been keeping her stats more stable. The doctor wants to get her back on the nasal ventilator in the next 2 to 3 days.  She's been more calm and has not had as much Versed.  Her 10 day ultrasound showed no brain bleeds.  They will do another one when she is 36 weeks.  She is still swollen with fluids today, but has had a good urine output.  She will continue on Hydrocortisone to reduce her liquid retention.  Her swelling is due to her immature adrenal glands.  Within 1 to 3 weeks they should develop and be able to do the job.  At birth Kate was in the 90% for her height, but less than average on her weight.

You can see how swollen she is by comparing these pictures that were taken only a few days apart.
