September 2nd

Kate was moved back to the first ventilator that she was put on when she was born.  It is called the oscillator and gives the baby constant short quick bursts of air to keep her lungs open.  She had a hard night last night keeping her stats normal and lungs open on the other ventilator and so they felt they needed to switch her over.  The doctor was worried that her PDA might have opened back up because of this and because her body is swollen.  They did another echo and it is still closed.  Kate will receive hydrocortisone medicine to help reduce the swelling.  Her body is leaking fluid into her tissues instead of taking it to her kidneys for urine output.  Another head ultrasound will be done today to see if she has brain bleeds.  If not, they won't do another one for a month- because generally babies get brain bleeds within the first 10 days of life.  She has been on versed quite a bit to make her sleepy and calm because she keeps getting mad and agitated.
